One of the easiest and best ways to avoid preservatives in skincare is to choose products that are oil, not water based.
Go for a balm, a butter or an oil but not a cream!
When you have very sensitive skin it’s important to eliminate ingredients that cause skin irritation.
While you want to avoid some preservatives, you might also want to avoid fragrances or some essential oils when you have very sensitive skin.
LESS IS MORE IN SKINCARE!
Using less products means that you expose your skin to less ingredients that can irritate it.
Only use the preservatives free products when you need them, your skin has a way to let you know when you’re going too far.
TIP: Remember to always read all the ingredients listed on the back of the label to understand what they mean.
A quick search on google can tell you about their meanings and benefits to your skin.
What are INCI names?
Don’t be afraid of the INCI names on the ingredients list (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) which by definition are systematic names internationally recognised to identify cosmetic ingredients (i.e, plant extracts, oils, chemicals).
As someone who has reacted to preservatives, even in natural skincare products, I understand how frustrating it can be to find 1 product that can work for different skin areas without irritating your skin.
The worst is for eczema prone skin sufferers who react to either some preservatives or fragrances!
My son’s struggles with his sensitive and eczema prone skin was the reason that I created my first Unscented Preservatives Free All-In-One Moisturising Balm.
